There is undoubtedly a clear nexus between online piracy and malware distribution. For example, pirate websites and apps frequently serve as a delivery mechanism for malware by enticing unsuspecting users to download and install the infected files on their devices. These malware infections can lead to a range of disastrous outcomes, including data breaches, identity theft, and fraud. Understanding the relationship between online piracy, malware, and cybercrimes is crucial in developing effective strategies to combat online piracy and protect against cybercrimes.
